Protecting your skin from the sun is by far one of the easiest and most important factors in the anti-aging fight to keep your skin looking youthful and radiant. The key to understanding sun protection is understanding the difference between UVA and UVB protection. UVB light is primarily responsible for sunburns, while UVA causes the most damage and aging of the skin. UVA is responsible for the formation of free radicals, which are the damaging particles to skin cells. UVA can go through window glass and clouds. The SPF (sun protection factor) that is labeled on the bottle only relates to UVB. Physical agents such as Zinc and Titanium dioxide offer a physical block to UVA and UVB.
The most important factor with sunscreen is to apply it LIBERALLY. A common mistake people make with their sunscreen is not using enough. Experts say you should use the equivalent of one teaspoon, which is approximately 5mls. |
